BlackBerry put an end to its long-simmering hardware misery and stopped designing new phones in 2016, opting to move entirely into the software sector. Yet the actual BlackBerry brand continues to shuffle along in the form of a partnership with Chinese company TCL, which earlier this year released the BlackBerry KeyOne, a moderately successful throwback phone which retained the increasingly obsoletephysical keyboard.
Now we have a look at the KeyOne’s successor, the BlackBerry Motion, which has scrapped the nostalgia for the touchscreen pretty much everyone wants and expects in their phones in 2017. Per Android Central and the Verge, the Motion was officially announced at the GITEX Technology Week in Dubai on Sunday and boasts specs including a 5.5-inch display, a Snapdragon 625 SoC processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a generous 4000mAh battery.
It’s also moderately priced—at least unlike comparatively wallet-busting monstrosities such as the $1,000 iPhone X—at $460 equivalent.
The new device will not be immediately coming to the US at that price, though. According to Android Central, the BlackBerry Motion will only be available in “select markets” to begin, namely “Middle Eastern markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia.” TCL is a budget manufacturer and intends the Motion to demonstrate that the KeyOne was not a one-off product, but the start of a line intended to attract more business customers.
