Ready for Some Oreo Testing on Your Galaxy S5? Here’s How to Update

source: wccftech.com By
Wondering if you could, just maybe, try out Oreo on your Samsung Galaxy S5? Lineage OS custom firmware is now available for the device, but is highly unstable. Based on Android 8.0.0 Oreo, the ROM is an early built that is designed for developers who want to help build it and for early testers. If you have the device lying around for testing purposes, here is how to update Galaxy S5 to Android 8 Oreo.
 Working :
  • RIL (SIM card)
  • Home button (wake up screen)
  • Fingerprint
  • Camera and Flash
  • A lot of stuff

Prerequisites to update Galaxy S5 to Android 8 Oreo

  • Backup any important data from your Samsung Galaxy S5 as a complete wipe will be required during the flashing process.
  • Enable USB debugging option on your device: Settings > Development Options > USB debugging.
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 must be rooted, unlocked and installed with a recovery tool like TWRP.
  • Your device must be charged to at least 60% of power.

Note: this tutorial is focused on Samsung Galaxy S5; please do not try this guide on other Android or Samsung devices. Also, as mentioned before, this is NOT for your daily driver, so install it only if you are into testing early releases of custom ROMs.
