Apple has released iOS 11.0.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the public today. Apple did not release any betas to developers before iOS 11.0.1 was released. This update comes one weekafter iOS 11 was released.
iOS 11.0.1 is a minor point release update with bug fixes and security improvements for iOS 11. iOS 11 included new major features like document scanning in Notes, Do Not Disturb While Driving, the new Files app, indoor maps and lane guidance for Maps, Live Photos editing, new multitasking features in the iPad, a new Messages app drawer, payment integration in Messages, a newly designed Control Center and a smarter version of Siri.
Some of the bugs that were reported after iOS 11 was released include an issue where Bluetooth and Wi-Fi could not be fully disabled. And there are problems with battery life and syncing email over Exchange protocols. Apple acknowledged that you might see an error message that says “Cannot Send Mail. The message was rejected by the server” if your email account is hosted by Microsoft on Outlook.com, Office 365 or an Exchange Server 2016 running on Windows Server 2016.
Forbes contributor Gordon Kelly also cited a report by security firm Wanderathat highlights how bad the battery life problem was. After monitoring a subset of 50,000 moderate to heavy iPhone and iPad users, it appears that the battery life for iOS 11 users saw a decay at twice as fast as those running iOS 10.
What Is Included In The iOS 11.0.1 Update?
Apple did not provide much information in the release notes of iOS 11.0.1. The summary of the update in the download and install section simply says that iOS 11.0.1 "includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone or iPad." I am guessing that this update should include a fix for the aforementioned email issues along with the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi bug. However, I will update this article after finding out more about which bugs iOS 11.0.1 fixes.
